This scheme under Foreign Trade Policy allows technological up-gradation of the indigenous industry. Export Promotion Capital Goods (EPCG) Authorizations are issued by licensing authority – Director General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) based on the certificate issued by an Independent chartered engineer.

Export Promotion Capital Goods (EPCG) allows import of capital goods including spares for various stages of production at zero duty subject to an export obligation of duty saved on capital goods imported under the EPCG scheme, which are supposed to be fulfilled in 6 years counting from the issue of the authorization date.

EPCG scheme covers manufacturer exporters with or without supporting vendor(s), manufacture(s), merchant exporters tied to supporting the service providers. It also covers designated service providers who are certified as Common Service Providers (CSP).

EPCG authorization holders can export either directly or may include third party (s) for export proceeds that are to be released in highly liquidated currency except for deemed exports.

Import of capital goods under the EPCG scheme remains subject to Actual User condition till export obligation is complete.
